Enrollment & Eligibility

Know when and how you can enroll.

Marketplace enrollment follows specific windows. Here's an overview of what to know.

Enrollment periods

Open Enrollment

Each year, the Marketplace holds an Open Enrollment Period when anyone eligible can enroll in a new plan or change plans. Dates are set annually; call us to confirm the current period.

Special Enrollment Periods

Certain life events, such as losing other coverage, moving, marriage, or having or adopting a child, may let you enroll outside Open Enrollment. Time limits apply after a qualifying event.

Understanding eligibility

To buy a Marketplace plan, you generally must live in the United States, be a U.S. citizen or lawfully present, and not be incarcerated. Final eligibility is determined through the Marketplace application.

Financial assistance

Premium tax credits and cost-sharing reductions may be available depending on your household size and expected income. We can help you understand how these programs may apply to you.

Documents and information

Having these on hand can make enrollment smoother: identification and Social Security numbers for household members applying, income information such as pay stubs or tax returns, and details about any current coverage. Additional documents may be requested by the Marketplace.
